Escape Velocities

A series inspired by the eternal transience of all things natural, "Escape Velocities" (a scientific term that determines the speed and force needed to break free from the gravitational attraction of a body) is a quirky storytelling of various coping mechanisms for when we are forced onto a sudden unexpected circumstance - from claustrophobic tendencies leading to daydreams full of sweet rebellions, to the little pieces of the good old days we keep sneaking back into our present world as our last means of preserving the dignity of the old ways we'll soon have to cast aside.

Iyan de Jesus' new series of paintings is about the subtle yet pleasurable metaphysical escape prior to letting go of our denials and in due course, letting the gravity take us back to the new ground where we'll eventually start digging new ditches to flow in.
